bio
Katie Hayes is a photographer based out of Austin, Texas. Before pursuing a career in photography, she graduated from The University of Texas with a BA in Math, a BA in Psychology and taught high school math. Her background is in documentary photography, with work ranging from mental illness and education to rattlesnake roundups and Mexican rodeos. Through an emphasis of documentary video education and an internship with National Public Radio, she has expanded her work to include multimedia projects.
Her photographic education includes the SALT Institute for documentary studies and she completed a masters degree in photojournalism from The University of Texas in May of 2008. In the summer of 2007, she was the photographic intern for The Washington Times, a daily paper out of Washington, D.C., she was selected to attend the Eddie Adam's Workshop Barnstorm XX in October of 2007 and interned in the multimedia department of National Public Radio. Her work has been featured in The Washington Times, Kyodo News, Village Voice Media and NPR.org.
